It’s official, summer is over. Sorry to put a damper on things, but all of the signs are there: relentless downpours, shorter daylight hours, a new season of The Great British Bake Off on the horizon and erm… Ryan Reynolds wearing a corduroy suit for his appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.

Yep, that’s right, the halcyon days of Reynold’s cool dad summer wardrobe are sadly over. Gone are the fun-but-sane short sleeve shirts, white vests, kidult jewellery and high tops, replaced with a corduroy two-piece accessorised with bookish tortoiseshell reading glasses (prescription, we hope) and sensible, big boy shoes.

Let’s be honest, this is Reynolds chilling out in the centre of his sartorial comfort zone: the actor has become well known for his covert-casual dress sense that’s made up of no-nonsense items. But if there’s one fabric we associate most with autumn and the colder months, it’s corduroy. It speaks of leaf-strewn walks in the parks, red wine and pints by the pub fire.

Suits in the stuff usually come in warmer colours such as brown, burgundy and camel, so Reynold's choice in the cerulean hue is refreshing to see. If you’re tempted to try it, make like Reynolds and layer it with something relatively simple as corduroy is packed with substance and character. A simple roll-neck or white tee will do.
