AA Milne’s beloved Winnie the Pooh stories entered the public domain just five months ago, and we’re already suffering for it. With copyright worries out the window when it comes to the little honey-guzzling bear, B-movie studio Jagged Edge Productions has pounced upon the opportunity to make a Winnie the Pooh horror movie.

Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey is already terrorising unwitting punters on the internet, with images of a dead-eyed, smirking Pooh and a disturbingly life-like Piglet doing the rounds on social media. All because director Rhys Waterfield (whose other credits include, we shit you not, Firenado and Demonic Christmas Tree) decided we need these images in our lives, actually.

The film sees Winnie and Piglet head off on a murderous rampage after Christopher Robin abandons them for pastures new (he’s hardly going to bring his weird stuffed toys to uni, is he?). “Christopher Robin is pulled away from them, and he’s not [given] them food, it’s made Pooh and Piglet’s life quite difficult,” Waterfield told Variety. “Because they’ve had to fend for themselves so much, they’ve essentially become feral. So they’ve gone back to their animal roots. They’re no longer tame: they’re like a vicious bear and pig who want to go around and try and find prey.”

Waterfield says they’ve tried to toe the line between horror and comedy, hopeful that the movie will be genuinely scary and at least a little bit funny, too. “It’s scary but there’s also funny bits because there’s shots of Winnie the Pooh in a car and seeing him with his little ears behind the wheel and like slowly going over there [to kill someone.]”

In an effort to distance themselves from Disney's versions of Milne's characters, they've ditched the red shirt and pantless look, with Pooh donning a lumberjack suit, and Piglet wearing all black. What of Tigger, Eeyore and co? Have they also got a bloodlust? They're also sitting this one out, for copyright safety reasons.

For the love of god…
